Default Flashing (blue colored) Shield - Task Bar - System Alert

Hi,
I can't get an "adware" off. The "Flashing Blue Shield" changes color to "red". Then, I keep getting a "system bubble" that pops up and says

"System Alert...System has detected a number of active spyware applications that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon to get rid of unwanted spyware by downloading an up-to-date anti-spyware solution."

Then if this is clicked there is an automatic link to a a website for AntiVirGear (AntiVirGear - Technologically Advanced Spyware Removal Program)

I have downlaoded Ad-Aware 2007 (a free anti-spyware) and it has not helped. I have also downloaded window "washers" trying to eliminate this...all to no avail.

I'd sure appreciate ANY tips. Thank you. Will

Congrats, you have adware. Click this link -> The home of Spybot-S&D! <- and download Spybot Search & Destroy, that typically gets rid of these infections. If it doesn't, a security guru should jump in to help you out with more advanced options.

I would also suggest you Download and install CleanUp!

*WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:
*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click on the “Temporary Files” and uncheck the box for “Scan drives for file matching” if it’s checked.
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

AntiVirGear is a rogue anti-spyware program which is installed via Zlob Trojan infections.
