I have a family computer, a Dell 2400 running XP SP2 with automatic updates on (set to notify before installation). Two accounts on the computer. Both are administrator accounts. Internet through ISDN by ATT/Yahoo. MacAfee Security Center, ZoneAlarm, and Spybot S-D protect the computer.
An update alert two days ago gave me the option to install Windows IE7. I did. On the next start up my account got the error message:
"SmartBridge Alerts MotiveSB.exe -- Entry Point Not Found.
"The procedure entrypointGetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL."
Several user postings on Microsoft plus a Microsoft Knowledge Base article instructed me to rename any PSAPI.DLL files not found in the Windows directory (i.e. to PASPIold.DLL). I did so and it took that problem away.
However, my spouse's account gets a different error message on startup. Before any user interaction an error message pops up:
"Internet Explorer Script Error" listing supposed lines of code affected, but no line numbers are given. Clicking the X on the error window reveals another error window behind it. My spouse cannot access e-mail, as the error message is above it in clicking heirarchy.
Clicking the X about 300 times or so in rapid succession finally clears the last window. But IE7 doesn't work. Each page generates an error before finishing loading. MSN Internet Reversi game also cannot start.
By contrast, on my account, IE7, e-mail, and MSN Internet Reversi work fine.
I created a new user account today to see if the same errors exist on it. They do.
None of these problems predate the installation of IE7.
What to do to solve these issues?
Thank you to any who can help.

No one has answered my post with any suggestions. I have since uninstalled Internet Explorer 7 and all the problems have disappeared. Internet Explorer 6 works fine. But I would like to be able to install and use IE7. Is there really no solution? Does the application just not work?
Thank you for your attention. Seekr |

There are three reasons why these problems occur. The first is that the web page author made some programming error. Yay Microsoft
The second reason may be that you are running a pop-up killer that closes pop-up windows so fast that the script on the web page fails. The third is that you might have some adware or spyware installed on your computer that opens the script error pop-ups. So, with that said lets start addressing these in respective order. What is the pop-up blocker you have installed on the system? Use some of these programs to scan the system for malware: Spybot S&D Adaware 2007 Cleanup! instructions follow Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet. *WARNING* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups. Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows: *Click "Options..." *Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!" *Put a check next to the following:
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Geekgirl,
Thank you for your response. I already had been running Spybot S&D and Adaware prior to the Automatic Updates installation of IE7. The "Internet Explorer" error occurred on system startup - not on my user account, but on my spouse's account, and also on an account I created after IE7 installation, to see if the error was specific to my spouse's account, or if it was specific to the installation of IE7. IE7 nor any other browser should not be running at system startup. Task Manager did not show IE7 to be running. Once I started IE7, then the error prevented getting on to any web page. If you are saying that IE7 did not cause these problems, then why did they go away when I uninstalled IE7? I have no discernible error of any kind with IE6, either on starting up my computer, or on running IE6 to visit any page I want. A year ago I also installed IE7 and had similar errors, which were resolved by uninstalling IE7. In the meantime Spybot S&D has completely swept my computer of any spyware, as far as I can tell. I have instructed Automatic Updates not to bother me with IE7 installation. I will run Adaware again. Spybot is always running. Again thank you for your attention. Seekr |

When in the System Configuration Utility, did you see MotiveSB.exe ( Motive SmartBridge) listed to run at boot? If it is uncehck it and reboot into your wifes profile and see if you still get the error.
