Windows XP/2000 - NTLDR is missing posted in the Operating Systems forums; hi when i start my computer a message shows up on the screen "NTLDR is missing press Ctr+alt+del to reboot" what should i do? thankful for help...

hi

when i start my computer a message shows up on the screen
"NTLDR is missing press Ctr+alt+del to reboot"

what should i do?

Hi lyxell.

You can follow these instructions, they should work:

To replace damaged files you can copy fresh files from the XP CD using
the COPY command. Boot with the XP CD and enter the Recovery Console. At
the Command Prompt type the following (where "X" is your CD-Rom drive
letter) allowing the files to overwrite the old files
COPY X:\i386\NTLDR C:
COPY X:\i386\NTDETECT.COM C:

That worked for me, I had the error a while ago but ah well
Did it give you any error messages while trying to copy the files? Or did it appear to overwrite them fine?

Make sure you have no floppy disks or cd/DVD's inserted.

It can also be caused by a corrupt Windows installation, so you might want to think about doing a format.

Hopefully though someone who knows a bit more about this problem will come along and give you a solution

now they are not missing anymore. the boot.ini is but windows boot anyway. but then a bluescreen comes up

Information in the bluescreen:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
