Default Drive Names Messed Up

I recently formatted my computer only to find that the drive names were all screwed up.
My local disk is I: and i believe this is related to the fact that my autorun function does not work; if you insert a CD/DVD or any removable storage device into the computer, it doesn't run automatically. This has presented some big challenges for me as when I click on my DVD-RW drive (J), sometimes the contents disk isnt even displayed. I tried to rename my drive name using instructions from microsoft (How to restore the system/boot drive letter in Windows) which resulted in a welcome screen with no users and no way to log in; (ctr-alt-delete twice didn't work). I formatted my computer again, and still the drive names were all messed up. I have no idea how to fix this now and I would really appreciate some support.
