Heya Unnamed66,
As far as I know, the only thing for you to try doing is a repair install of XP (click my link below for instructions). A repair install will not wipe your saved data, it will just rebuild all of the important Windows files. If Lsass.exe is corrupted, you are plain old out of luck as you will experience the problems you are having now. It is pretty much always easiest just to do a repair install of XP.
A couple things to note before doing so:
1. You
need a licensed copy of XP as it will ask you to activate it when you finish the install. If it is invalid you won't be able to activate it and you won't get back into Windows.
2. Most of the time when you activate, you will have to do it over the phone because your computer won't connect to the internet properly. Just follow the telephone directions.
3. A lot of your software will probably stop working and you will need to reinstall. Also, tons of Windows settings will be reverted to their original state, so you will have to set all your favorite settings back up. Just be prepared for Windows to look totally funky again.
4. It may reset peripheral drivers and not reinstall them for you. You may have a number of drivers that won't work and you will need to do it yourself...including network drivers. So have another computer that does connect to the internet and preferably a flash drive handy so you can download drivers and move them to your damaged computer.
If the repair install doesn't work, you can always slave your hard drive to a working computer to get data off that way and burn it to DVDs. Then you can do a full format and restore of Windows.
Hope that helps!
