Default cmos checksum error

HI guys...
I get this error when i boot up my pc, but does not show when i restart my pc from windows.
It says that it loaded the defaults and i should save before leaving.
What would be the cause of this error?
I myself have googled it and they say that it's the cmos battery.
What do you think?]

Thanks.

I agree-- the CMOS is the basic BIOS + any changes-- which is why it requires a battery. If the battery's weak-- it 'forgets' settings and starts over.

Thanks. I try replacing my battery tomorrow.
BTW, is there any other cause for this?

Not that I know of...if the battery's original-- they go a few years-- it's a very tiny current... all it does is maintain the memory. The CMOS remembers all your hardware/config/system clock.

Just like in a car -- if you disconnect/replace the battery-- the computer in the car has to "relearn" all its parameters-- so it runs rough for a few minutes...same idea-- microscopic scale.

Does a failure in the motherboard or power supply have anything to do with this?

Not usually-- this battery just has to be replaced every couple of years...why, are you getting other errors?
Don't replace anything else until you try the battery first-- they only cost about $2.99 -- it is very simple to do.
