I'm reposting this as it was marked down as answered but, believe me, it's not!!!
I seem to have lost my icons from my task bar
I've clicked on the properties and checked that they're not in hiding or been deleted, and they're not. I've rebooted loads of times over the last few days and sometimes they appear, sometimes they don't. It's getting very frustrating because I'm unable to "safely uninstall hardware", as there is no icon!! I don't know where they've gone, or why. I've run various anti-virus programmes, spy-ware programmes and nothing. At the time of writing this I have only 4 items on my task bar when there should be at least 20!!!!!
Can we have a scavenger hunt and start looking for them please, or at least can someone give me a clue as to where to start??

In my case, first the icons disappeared from the taskbar when I minimized a window. Now there is no taskbar, only a blue line. I tried the procedure for recovering an over-shrunk task bar [CTRL-ESC, then ESC, then ALT-space bar. That brings up a menu with a "resize" option. You're supposed to be able to resize the taskbar by using the UP keyboard arrow to drag the four-headed arrow up until the taskbar can be seen] but it doesn't work.

Thanks for replying. No, I haven't got it sorted out yet. I've turned the computer on today and every single item was on the task bar that should be there. Yesterday there were only 3!!! I'm stumped as to what's going on with it. Even the program I downloaded, "fixit taskbar", doesn't fetch them up every time. It's frustrating knowing that they should be there but not. Ah well, ha ha.
