Many years ago, it would have been cheaper to build your own PC, but these days it normally costs around the same. The only remaining advantage of building your own PC is having the PC built exactly the way you wan't. But even with web sites like Dell, where you can configure your PC on-line, and guaranteed to have the PC working when it arrives, as well as the support you would get with a new PC, it's really not necessary IMHO. It's really not hard to build you own PC if you wanted to. The only concern real concern is ensuring compatibility between each of your components.
