Default ethernet cable problem?

i've been having a problem recently with my internet connection. i've been using the same original 50 foot cable for 5 years.

I have DSL but considering the remote location of the universe that i live in, i can usually only download at approximately 160 kb/s, a few weeks back that was decreased to a painstaking 6kb/s.....

i've narrowed the problem down to the ethernet cable, when i have a longer (50 ft) cable in use i have horrible internet speeds, however with a shorter (10 ft) cable, my internet soars (albeit only 160 kb/s).....i've tried two NEW 50 ft cables and encountered the same problem.....for some reason my NIC (?) won't accept any long ethernet cables anymore...

Default Re: ethernet cable problem?

Welcome to the PCHF.

Suggest you check the Device Manager under "Network adapters".
Before buying a new adapter, I'd check to see of there is an update driver available.

If you need help finding a right driver, provide the make/model info that you find in the Device Manager.

Good Luck...
