first of all go perform the system file checker, to check for any corrupt files, to know how to run sfc, follow this link here

that should do it,

if it is still giving you problems, scan your registry, you can do a free scan from here and click on the free registry scan.

please remember to create a restore point before scanning.

Hi faraz. I bought my computer second hand and didn't get XP discs with it, so can't run SFC . However have done a registry scan and cleaned that up, but still no help.
