Default No sound and taskbar went to Win98/95 style...

First of all, thanks in advance for looking in this thread and trying to help me out.

Alright, yesterday is when I first noticed something weird was happening. I couldn't control my sound anymore via the little sound icon on the task bar. It said something about there being no sound installed. Sound still worked, though, so I thought it would be okay once I rebooted the computer.

Well, this morning, after I turned my PC back on (from hibernation--didn't reboot yet), I went to click the sound icon again and it had disappeared. Then, I knew something was up because my task bar had went from Windows XP style to Win98/95 style. After looking around in Control Panel, it looks like my sound driver has been completely deleted.

Something else that happened, is I have a CD Drive and DVD drive, and when I go to My Computer it shows two CD Drives now. It also takes a really long time to display the icons. Also, if I try to restart it takes forever to get into Windows. I thought my PC hung up a couple times, but after giving it a few minutes, it finally loaded up. It takes forever even in Safe Mode.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Thanks.

Alright, I fixed it. Basically what I did, was I went Start > Run > typed "services.msc" and clicked Ok. When I went to "Plug and Play" on the right column, it said "The Plug and Play service or another service required is not available." and all the services said "disabled". I right clicked Plug and Play and clicked start, then rebooted my PC. After the reboot, I was able to change the theme back to Windows XP and I had sound again.

If I find out what caused Plug and Play to become disabled, I'll post it. I hope this helps anyone who gets the same problem.
