Hi-- welcome to PCHF...
I would use a registry cleaner to try to track down the bits & pieces of Norton-- it can be done manually--but it's not easy.

Heya ddc22 Welcome to PCHF

I would also try using Norton Removal Tool - Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

Norton removal tool is basically an uninstaller for Norton, except it completely removes any trace of Norton. It is a lot more thorough than Add/Remove programs. It is also made by Symantec themselves.

As far as a registry cleaner, you can click on my CCleaner link and get that. If you use the Issues button, that looks for registry problems and cleans them up. Free download and a good program to have around.

Hope that helps!

hmm, I already tried the registry cleaner (I just edited this post to say norton removal tool)- it did not work. However I did discover if I put the missing S32EVNT1.dll in my windows - system32 folder and just to be sure also in my windows - system folder that the annoying popup ceased and desisted. The norton tool is very helpful though. So thanks.

Thanks - I am very afraid of registry tools being an illiterate registry person. I am afraid I might make it worse but I do have a backup so it is worth a try. I am also having an IDE controller problem - i suspect it is my mobo though - however the registry fix might help. I have already been messing around in the registry and no telling what damage I have done already. I now have 3 different registry entries for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSet001
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSet002
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSet

That occurred while trying to fix what is probably a hardware problem.
Thanks
