Hi gh063.

Performance:
First you have to make sure your PC is completely malware/virus free.
Performance falls into several categories:
Startup and shutdown;
Program starting;
Program execution;
Hard drive reads & writes;
Internet downloads;

For XP an "optimal" amount RAM is 512MB to 1GB. Less memory makes XP use the hard drive too much which slows everything down.

Unnecessary startup programs can really slow down startup and shutdown times.
Malware often does the same.

See these:

Computer and browser slowness are not always malware related

What is the brand name and model number of your PC ?

The battery - do you mean the BIOS's CMOS memory backup battery ?
This can found out by opening up the case and looking at it.
The user manual may tell you what this is (or not).
Many motherboards of all makes use a model CR2032 "coin" battery. Its size is between a nickel and a quarter and is very shiny.

Why do you want to know what kind of battery is used ? Does the PC make you go into the BIOS and make the same setting changes over and over every time you turn the power on ?

Do you mean a laptop's battery pack ?

If you bought an aftermarket mobo then the model number is on the User's Manual.

Also, when you boot the model may be flashed across the screen for a moment by the BIOS. You may have to disable showing the "splash screen" in the BIOS to be able to see this .
