Default XP Home won't start on PC

I recently installed XP Home on a new PC. It installed successfully, but when
I went back in to restart, it didn't. I then reinstalled XP Home and I can now get to the desktop. When I am on the desktop I get an error message that says that explorer.exe needs to close and I can;t do anything else but restart. I have chesked all of the hardware and made wire all of the connections are tight and correct. Please Help! Thanks!

Hi and welcome to PC Help Forum.

Let's start with the "official" fixes: "Explorer Has Encountered an Error and Needs to Close" Error Message When you Start Windows XP

The message doesn't say "Explorer Has Encountered an Error and Needs to Close", it says "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program: explorer.exe"

I would say that you don't have a completely "fresh" install. What have you already installed since you re-installed XP?

Also, did you format/delete the partition before re-installing XP?

I have not installed anything since the last reinstall because i have not been able to get into "My Computer". I am doing just another regular reinstall right now and if that doesn't work I will try to delete the partitions and do a "fresh" reinstall. Thanks for the advice!

No problem I think you'll find "XP life" a lot easier and more trouble-free when you delete the partition and format before installing fresh
