I have had this problem for about two weeks now. first my comp would lockup during the screensaver or after the monitor was automatically shutoff, it would also randomly lockup and crash during regular use or during idle. so i went through and checked for viruses and spyware, swapped video cards, swapped Power Supply Unit's, swapped ram, and checked for overheating. i most recently swapped out the ram and that cured the freezing and random restarts, until this morning when i booted up my system and there was video to my monitor until after the XP loading screen after which was just black. i kinda think its a xp problem, but i would like to see if anyone else has some other ideas.

Edit: just to add, i did boot it in safe mode and i got the same problem.
