Default [Answered] Help with mpeg conversion! (wife wants to kill me!)

OK guys I am in dire straits here! HELP!

I recently needed to free up a lot of hard drive space, so I transferred all the family photos that I had saved to the hard drive onto a CD (VCD or SVCD).
Well, this morning, my wife was looking for one of the photos, and when she opened the CD, every photo I have on it shows up as an MPEG!
Obviously when I try to use Windows media player to view them, it tries to run them as a movie, and flies thru them so fast that they are totally unviewable! I need to convert these files back into JPEGs!
I tried to download a couple converters off the 'net, but none of them supports mpeg, so they're no good to me.

Someone save my skin here!

Hi Ford,

The method you used was convert those files to VCD/SVCD, a video format (MPEG) used for DVD Players. It's not really a converter your looking for to be honest. Video converters will only convert to other video format's. What your looking for is a utility that will split a video into individual frames, and then save them as individual files. You may find this a little time consuming, and you may have already noticed some loss in quality due to the compression required for MPEG video.

You might want to try something like this: SC Free Video Decompiler - screenshot.

also you can use windows movie maker.

upload the file in wmm and play the movie slowly pausing at every frame and then click "take picture" to save the video frame as a jpeg file.

Hi fordktpjoe.

It sounds like you want to simply burn the JPG files onto a plain data CD or DVD. This way every individual pic will be viewable by double-clicking on its file name. This automatically views the picture using XP's Windows Picture and FAX Viewer, not WMP. You may want to keep your original folder structure to keep the pics organized.

Another popular option is to use a program that will convert a list of JPG files to an MPG video slideshow. Individual pics would not be avaiable, though.

Also if you have Nero (just guessing) you can reverse the process by opening Nero's picture viewer and saving file as... (do not know what nero's pic viewer is called) My wife did the same thing and I fell upon that on accident trying to reform them.

Also for the time being.. Right click the properties of one of the pics, go to advanced and choose "Paint" to open the files. You can change it back after you are done.
