Default booting insprion 6000

hey, my inspiron 6000 laptop seems to have died. whenever i try to boot it it jus goes to a black screen and says "No boot sector in internal hard drive. No bootable devices, strike F1 to retry or strike F2 to run setup utility"

i tried fixin the MBR but that did nothing. any ideas?

Howdy Biggs28 and welcome to PCHF..

Sorry it had to be like this though.

If you have a floppy drive available you can download the below file to try and fix the boot sector. If not you may have to do a repair install of Windows.

dang, there isnt a floppy drive...how do i do a repair install?

Hopefully you have the windows disc...

Here is how you do the repair install.. Dont worry about the warnings though

argh i got 2 the bit where it says but here was nothing like that there.

"Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press Rto start the repair."

but repair wasnt one of the options.

any other ideas?

Howdy again biggs.

You do not want to press R.. you just want to press enter when it gets to that screen. Then it will think for a second, and a new Windows will appear.

Press Enter to start the Windows Setup.
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press ENTER to start the repair
Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.
