Default video codecs

I downloaded a file of the net, the whole download was a 1gig file i cant seem to open and a txt file saying, i needed "high quality" codecs to view the file and that my player probably cant play it.... the text file also gives a link to where i can get the "needed codecs" so i go there and theer was nothing to download just a buncha stuff it wanted me to register/sign up for and take surveys (the usual Spam stuff im guessing so i didnt do it) so now Im wondering how to open teh file or if anyone know where i can find real "high quality" codecs... my pc seems to run all other types of files and video files just fine. Im thinking teh file must do something.. i doubt its there just to take up space and even though i havent had teh chance to scan it yet Im seriously doubting theres viruses goin around that ae 1 gig in size... soooo any tips?

Howdy

What type of file is it? Is it a .mov avi etc... If you right click the file look at the end and let us know

I have seen this before where the text file try to get you to download a codec to play it and it recommends you a new player to. I can't remeber the name of the codec which one is it asking for?
