I use Media Player Classic to play all my video files, I have a lot of real media files on my system and I find using that with the K-Lite Codec Pack works great. (the two come bundled together if you choose the full version)

VLC cannot play Real video as you've just found out, and I personally wouldn't touch RealPlayer with a bargepole. If you would rather stick with RealPlayer then I think you have to download a subtitle plugin to get it to work, but even then there's no guarantee it will work as I'm not sure of it's compatibility with certain file types.

but wouldnt using Klite for media player classic over wriet or get rid of my VLC? after all i think i had tyo get rid of Kliet to use VLC in teh first place (otherwise id still hhave it lol)
