well when i try to play it using teh player that K lite gives it just says unable to render the file (or somethin like that) doesnt ask for a specific codec.. the text file that came with the media says:

This media has been encoded using high quality codecs.
Perhaps your player can't play it.
If it's so, go here and download it:

Get your download!

The downloads page is only for registered users,
but sign up is free.
I did so, because I found many codecs with adware,
malware, etc., and I uploaded to free downloads
sites and it was infected too.
Here you have a clean copy, and in a trusted site.

I went there and there was nothing to register for or download just a bucnha pages wanting me to sign up for stuff and take surveys... the usual junk mail type spam stuff

For poops and giggles download avi preview and open the file with avi preview and see if you can view it through that, if not then it may be a damaged file.

Try VLC Player. It plays every file because it has codecs built into it. If you had no codecs on your system it would still play the file. If it works then you should also take a look at CCCP. It is the combined community codec pack. Google it and it should have a faq which gives detailed instructions on how to download. make sure you follow them to the letter. Good Luck
