Default I don't understand it....

Whenever I'm watching a music video or playing an mp3 on my PC I have to prepare myself for the almost certain event that it will freeze, the PC itself won't but the program will and won't perform again unless I restart the computer. I have now 1.25gb memory, 2 512 sticks and a 256 stick, each was tested individually with Memtest86+ before I installed them all, no errors showed up, my XP installation is maybe two months old...probably less...and my processor is showing at 900mhz though it used to say 1ghz. This happens with any program, Windows Media Player, Winamp, Musicmatch, Audacity, even on YouTube...I don't understand it...my gfx card is 128mb so it should be enough to watch videos on youtube....
What really surprises me is that my laptop, which is also running XP Home SP2, has a Pentium 2 processor at 367mhz and 192mb ram (maxed out), runs the internet and winamp perfectly. Yesterday I was watching TV shows on YouTube on it with no lagging. The only thing is that my laptop is a 14"LCD and my desktop is a 21" CRT so the picture quality is significantly different and (at 1024x768) by laptop's best available res. is 16 bit while my desktop monitor (a Gateway VX1120) is 32...that makes a BIG difference, especially when what you're watching has very dark colors...

I think the problem may be the motherboard as I had problems like this on my old installation on a different HD ( I attributed it to bad memory at the time but such is clearly not the case now).
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Zachary,

To me, this sounds like a virus/malware issue.
Can you please follow the prework link in my signiture, and post the resulting logs?

Default My HiJackThis Log

Per Garhar I'm posting my HJT log, along with the Super AntiSpyware Log, for some reason AVG AntiSpyware refused to run on my PC but I have Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D so I think I'm fairly well covered in that area.
This is my original thread, which describes my problem: http://www.pchelpforum.com/windows-x...nderstand.html

Oh, forgot to mention, CCleaner deleted something like 50mb of files and found no more on consecutive scans.

merged posts.

Zachary, your log look pretty clean. Open hjt, click 'perform system scan only', place a tick next to the following, and click 'fix checked':

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Your SAS log showed only cookies, so I don't think it's malware, although something could be hiding. I didn't see any java or anything activex related, which is odd in and of itself, but not critical.

Reboot after fixing that, and post a new log please.

Thanks,

v

Here's a new log
The reason for the lack of ActiveX might be since the only thing I used Internet Explorer for was to download Firefox immediately. Obviously I use it to browse my computer folders (only because I have to...). If I'm correct in my thinking, Firefox and ActiveX don't play nicely together. I'm glad and disappointed that I don't have Malware or viruses, glad because I try very hard to keep my PC "Healthy", perhaps the worst thing I do on it is go to MySpace, and I have several programs to make sure it stays in good order (AVG AntiVirus, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware). The 1st and last of which do automatic scans every week. I'm disappointed though because if it had been that then I could have fixed it.

Just out of curiosity, what was that you had me fix? Because now the icon with a screen and a red X, the one in the system tray that shows my Network card has nothing connected to it, is gone and has been replaced with the same icon as my wireless card has, except it's not lit up (see attached pic).
