Default .txt file type association missing?

When i turned on my computer, i was perturbed by so many unknown icons with a white background and a big notepad icon in the middle. Upon closer look, i found out that the were all .txt - text documents. But instead of showing their default icon of a ringed notepad, it showed an unknown icon of a white background and huge notepad image in the centre. Thus i realized that the file association to how this file should display to the user was broken. May i know may do i rectify this matter, just to fill you in i had installed and uninstalled adobe creative suite cs3 web premium in advanced. And this situation only arises after i have uninstalled it, would there be any links to it?

Hi James,

No app, even Adobe, should have changed the .TXT file aqssociation.

To set it back to what it was:
Open Explorer and browse to any .txt file.
Right-click on that file and select Open With.
From the submenu select Choose Program.
The original association was with Notepad, but I prefer Wordpad.
Select whatever program you would like.
Check off the checkbox Always use the selected program to open this kind of file > Click OK

Double-click a .txt filename in Explorer to verify that the new association works properly.
