AVG AntiSpyware found a load (but couldn't be updated as the internet was not there...), then SuperAntiSpyware found a load more. CCleaner got rid of a load....

...and by the time all this was done, the internet worked again

So if anybody wants to have a look, and let me know what it might have been, and if there is anything else I need to do, I'd be very grateful.

hello, steve, sorry for the delay.... you got some issues with your log, so let's start from the top. Easiest way to fix most of them is via smitfraud, so we'll go that route.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).Please attach this report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Thanks for the further advice, but the PC has just gone back to the person I was fixing it for!

SmitFraud certainly rings a bell, so I am pretty certain that one of the many scans I did on the machine found it - I used a combination of AVG, SpyBot Search & Destroy, SuperAntoSpyware, and Ad-Aware. Eventually they all came up with nothing, and the machine appeared to be working OK again.

If the owner has any more problems, I will carry on from where I left off...
