Default Very Green

Hello there.

I find myself on an island surrounded by Apple Macs. Therefore I have nowhere to turn in regards to my PC knowlegde defiency.
Can I please cut to the chase and get started on my first question? (Hello to you all by the way).
My PC is presently using the Window XP system. My eldest son 12 (I was a child bride), who knows more about this than me, has somehow managed to change a setting on my internet explorer and I do not seem to have any backgrounds.
Can anyone help walk me through this and get my backgrounds back?
Many thanks and look forward to your advice . Me for the last few weeks.
Take care
Toby

Hey Tobias,

I'm usually on this forum asking for help, but I think I might be able to help you out with this one.

However, I'd like to know what you mean by Internet Explorer "backgrounds". I haven't come across the tem before. Do you mean the wallpapers/skins that change the appearance of the part of the Internet Explorer window that isn't displaying a webpage?

And welcome to the forum - the guys here are incredibly helpful and efficient.

Hello Jim

Thanks for the response and taking the time to look at this for me.

I really am very green with all things computer orientated, so please forgive me if my terminology is a little out.

Example: When I go to internet explorer and my home page is Yahoo, I can only see the text and pictures. Same as when I enter our bank homepage BNZ. On my laptop, this now shows only as a white background, with some of the buttons missing, unless you run your mouse over them (shows a bubble brief of what should be there).
Does this make any sense Jim.
Thanks heaps,
Tobias

Hi Tobias Rex.

I'll assume that you are using Internet Explorer.
In IE click on:
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab
In the Multimedia section make sur:
Show image download placeholders is UNchecked, and
Show pictures IS checked.

It sounds like IE might be damaged. What version of IE are you running ?

Okay. My wife did some investigation and solved the problem. Bless that lady.
I went to control panel.
Accessibility option once
Accessibility option twice
Display
Unmark 'USE HIGH CONTRAST'

Hey presto, back in business.
Thank you all for your guidance to date and no doubt I will be back.
Take care and kindest regards,

Tobisa

IE7 is downloaded & installed as a MS hotfix/update. You can uninstall it in Add and Remove programs and then reinstall it.

IE7 Download from MS

IE7 Download - Alternate download site
