You shouldn't jump to the conclusion that "HP shafted you". XP is probably configured to underclock the
CPU when it detects that it is idle (most of the time). To disable automatic underclocking :
Click on the Desktop > select Properties > click Screensaver > click the Power button > click the Power scheme dropdown list > select Always On
This will keep the
CPU running at the max rate whether you need it or not, and you do
not need this. Home/Office Desk(top) is an optimal setting for desktop systems. Laptops really should have the Portable/Laptop scheme to save as much power as possible for the times when the power cord is unplugged.
