Talking biping sound

hi guys I need your help ; after doing a clean install of WIN XP on my PC it worked grate for about a week , then the screen went dark , the PC wont boot , it only gets to the bios setup , and the monitor goes dark , and there is a continues bipping sound , I already changed the memory stick just to see if that was the problem , and it still bips , now my question is , I know in the past there was a time when I forgot to put the fan over the cpu , and it burned fried , and the was the same sound that I’m having now , could it that the cpu went , I have not much experience , so I need your help , I also know that there are allot of very smart guys here , thanks

To further assist us, can you describe the beeping exactly. Length of beeps, how many, how they are spaced etc...

Default beeping sound

it is a continious beeping sound , i have replaced the memory, and the beeping still goes on , so i think that it could be the CPU , but i could be wrong , thanks it is a pentium 4 i'm not sure about the motherboard this is what it says Amptron and there is this number N1996 , I did not rebuild this pc a friend of mind bought it , and asked me if i could help him , thansk

Hi welcome to PCHF What Hengis means is the beeping sequence E.g 1 long 2 short the beep codes are here PC Hell: BIOS Error Beep Codes this will indicate what is wrong with the PC
