Default [Resolved] "Waiting for network"

This notebook is really causing me quite a headache...

I bought an Acer 4520 on Sunday. The resource CD provided only gave drivers for Vista, and I had to look high and low for it on the web before finding it here:
ATHEROS Wireless LAN 2.4/5GHz - Select Driver

Now Device Manager says my ethernet is working properly, but when I try to connect to an available network, it just gives the "Waiting for network" message?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

are you just trying to connect wireless at a hotspot, or are you trying to connect to an existing network that you have in your house/school?

Well I intend to bring it to China for use.

I see that I have a few networks to 'tap on' (strictly for testing if the wireless works) at home. Well true enough the connection doesn't work.

is the firewall configured to allow outbound connections? May want to disable that for a bit and then try to get out....if that works, you know where the problem lies.

What ip address is given, and where are you getting it from?

I've tried disabling the firewall, but still no luck.

I haven't tried ipconfig /all yet. Should I do that and get back to you?

yeah, let's what ip address it's being given....do you know where the ip is coming from? Do you run a wireless network where you are trying to connect this, or just plain trying to pick up a signal from somewhere?

Default Re: [Pending] "Waiting for network"

Just to update all on this matter (as well as get this thread resolved)...

Appears that this was a driver problem as I suspected earlier. I went back to the shop and demanded that they give me XP drivers because they were the ones who offered to install XP on my Acer.

Went back with the driver they gave, and all went well.

I'll also marked this thread as Resolved.
