I own an Acer Travelmate 8006LMi and have problems booting it up, and it's puzzled me because it did used to work! until I tried using a PS/2 to USB converter on the laptop..

I bought a converter to use my ps/2 keyboard with the laptop, because I hate the laptop style keyboards, after the adaptor wasnt working, I restarted the laptop and it stopped working ever since..

It will not boot Windows, and it will not boot any CD, the post screen shows up, ram check is fine, then the screen goes blank, the CD-rom drive makes a noise so I am guessing it's reading the CD, but no video on my screen??

I was using an External Dell 17" monitor with the laptop, so had dual screening if you like..

But the laptop isnt working, and if my dad does find out its not working, I am dead basicly..

Ask me any questions you like and i'll answer the best I can, I have played with the BIOS, resetting default settings, changing boot priority so it boots CD-rom first.. but to no avail..

Any clues??

Re enter the bios and tell it to boot from your hard drive, not cd rom. see if that works.

Didnt work screen goes blank after the post screen..

Have you tried booting up into "safe mode"? If not as you turn the laptop on keep repeatedly pressing the F8 key. A screen should appear and you should be able to choose "safe mode" select and press enter.

I tried this and it doesnt work, just no video is being displayed, I pressed F8 repeatdedly until my finger was aching and it didnt show anything..

I am pretty worried as i've had and built computers for years and normally can fix these things, but im at a lost.. and I cant figure it out!

I've removed the HDD, Optical Disk, RAM, Wireless Network Adaptor and im still getting the same problem, so they are okay..

I dont know what to do next, Acer Support is an 0870 number which will cost loads..
