Default No Audio Device.. Please Help!

Hey guys, I would really appreciate some help with a problem which has been affecting me for months.

I have a Sony VGN-FS31B Laptop, a couple of months ago i lost the sound for some reason and was recieving the 'No audio device' message in Sounds/Devices. I looked through 100s of post for fixes. And have still not found a true fix!

I download all the sound drivers from the sony vaio website, and when i re-install the audio drivers- 'realtek' comes up in my Sounds/Devices. This works fine, until i turn off or restart my computer. As soon as i turn it on i again recieve 'No audio device' message! So basically my sound keeps vanishing, and i greatly need a fix to resolve the problem fully.

All help would be greatfully appreciated!

Thanks

From what you just said it seems that you need to reinstall the driver for your sound card every time you boot your lap top up in order for your sound to work, that is a very bizzar problem. It sounds like it is much more likely a software based problem rather then a hardware problem although sometimes you can never be fully sure. Anyways, others opinion will likely be different, my suggestion is formatting your hard drive and starting with a fresh start, afterwards if the problem stills occurs then you might have some form of hardware failure, although I doubt it. A few others will likely suggest you run a few anti-viruses or hijack this or who knows but often my solution in the realm of software problems is formatting.

Thanks for your reply.

Not a massive expert with computers, so could you explain how i go about re-formatting hard drive? Is this an easy thing to do? Does it have major affects on my computers documents/music/other files etc etc! All help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Have you tried booting the PC in safe mode remove all the sound driver from device manager and reboot the PC in normal mode and reinstalling it? this may correct the problem. If that didn't work try installing this driver it is from realtek the people who maufacture the sound device Realtek

Thanks madmatt.

So how do i go about booting the laptop in safe mode? So your suggesting from there i remove everything in device manager under the 'Sounds devices' option. And then exit safe mode, and reboot the PC normally and try reinstalling all sound stuff again.

Ive already tried to re-install drivers from the realtek website but doesnt seem to have much effect. They just disspear when i turn off computer, the realtek manager stays but sound/audio mixers dont- i.e im left with no sound.

You can press F8 during the start-up of your laptop. This way you'll get a Windows set-up menu, and you can choose from several ways to start-up. Select Safe Mode with network possibilities.
