Default [Pending] Sound drivers

I have a gateway laptop that I'm working on and I went to the gateway site to get the audio drivers and it won't install. Could someone direct me in the right direction or tell me what's going on? The model on this laptop is: MX6450 and if you need the serial it is: T356241002145. Please help!

Does anybody have a clue on what I can do? I've tried everything and I got nothing. Some will download but will not install and I don't know why or what to do.

Did you follow the install directions here? :
Gateway.com

Those are CAB files-- no auto-installer

No, not really cause I assumed that you install it like anything else. I really didn't understand what it was telling so could you put it into simplier terms for me?

What is a .cab file?
link here

Microsoft Corporation

From Gateway support

This is the Windows XP sound driver for the Gateway notebook computer models listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section below.

Installation

1. The necessary files extract to the C:\Cabs folder and create a sub-folder using the name of the driver part number.

2. From the Start menu, click Run. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\D00377-002-001\Setup.exe. Click OK.

3. Follow all onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Removal

1. From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. With Control Panel in Category View, double-click Performance and Maintenance

3. In the Performance and Maintenance window, click System.

4. In the System Properties window, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

5. In Device Manager, click the plus sign (+) in front of the type of device you want to remove the drivers from, and then double-click the specific device to open the Properties dialog box.

6. In the Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall.

7. In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

Troubleshooting

If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, download the file again, and then perform the installation steps for a second time.

Reason for Update

This is the initial release of the driver.

Basically-- you download those files to an easy-to-find location
(I create a folder on my desktop called "downloads")

the you go to start/run-- in the run dialog you type or copy/paste this EXACT phrase:

C:\Cabs\D00377-002-001\Setup.exe

windows will probably put up an error message saying "file not found"--no worries
click ok-- then in the bottom of the run dialog --click "browse" this will open a dialog box with "look in" at the top. Under that dropdown menu-- go to C:\downloads ---find the downloaded driver files-- and double click it. This tells windows where to find the right files. hit enter-- you should be done...
