Well the title pretty much says it all. I dont have enough time to do anything on it before it restarts. Worried its a virus and i wont be able to remove it because it just keeps restarting. Then again it could be a windows problem so i wasnt sure where to put this. The pc is fine in safe mode. Doing a virus scan in safe mode with avg turns up nothing.

Its got windows XP
core 2 duo e6600
2gb ram

Hi Mooser,

Does the PC restart itself with a Blue Screen of Death? In safe mode, can you check your event logs for any errors (go to My Computer, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer). If you find any errors, please can you tell me the Source, ID and description.

hello again madmonkey

nah there is no BSOD, in the event viewer there are 4 errors

In the even viewer there are about 9 million errors in each category.

application 1286 (Application error records)
security 1 (security audit records)
2843 in system errors (system error records)
Intel DH 1759 (Custom log error records)

edited for descriptions

I Mo, don't recognise any of those events (except Security - ID 1). Are there not any descriptions there? When the PC restarts, is it random, can you see your desktop icons?

I did a system restore from safe mode which seems to have fixed it. Still would like to know what it was. There were no descriptions next to the events. When it restarted there was nothing unusual. Everything was functioning fine, it just restarted after a little while.

Empty descriptions? are you absolutely sure? I didn't think it was possible to save an event without a description. Those events could have been a result of on installed peice of software, or malware. It may be a good idea to submit your logs from PCHF Prework on my signature, just to be sure as a system restore would have only restored essential files and settings, but any underlying malware could still be there.
