Hi oddbod,

I'm 99% certain you have a bad stick of memory there. The dump is only showing a single bit of bad memory, but it's enough to cause this BSOD and could potentially cause data corruption on your HDD.

To be absolutely certain, one way to test for faulty memory is to use memtest.

- If you have a floppy drive and a spare floppy disk, please download: http://www.memtest86.com/memt32.zip

- If not, please download, unzip and use nero to burn this image: http://www.memtest86.com/memtest86-3.2.iso.zip

Reboot with the CD/Floppy in the drive and start memtest.

Hi,
I'm having problems with the bootable CDR.
Downloading the above gives me a zipped file.
When I unzip this I get a file called "memtest86-3.2" which is a WinRAR archive file.
Am I meant to burn this to a CDR?

If I extract the WinRAR file I get a folder named BOOT which contains 2 files - BOOT and MEMTEST.

Can you specify what I'm meant to be burning to CD?

And does it have to be burnt with Nero with the bootable CD option?

Thanks

Noooo, that's not a WinRAR file, that's an .iso image file. Nero has an option to burn image files, you will need to select memtest86-3.2.iso as your image and Nero will do the rest.

hmmmm, I guess I'm doing something wrong but not sure what.

I download the zipped file on my other PC (a laptop).
I extract the contents and I get a folder named - "memtest86.3-2.iso"
This contains an ISO file named exactly the same - "memtest86.3-2.iso"

I don't have Nero on my laptop, but I do have it on my other PC (the one with the BSOD problem).
So I transfer the ISO file to this PC (via a pen drive).
On this PC however, the ISO file shows up as a WinRAR file.

Okay, so I select the "Burn Image to Disc" option in Nero, but when the select box pops up, I can't see the ISO file until I select "All Files" in the File Types drop down list.

So then I burn the file to a CDR with Nero.
But nothing happens when I reboot with this CDR.
I tried it in both PCs, but nothing.

If I click on the CD drive and open the CDR, I see a folder named "BOOT" which contains 2 files - one named BOOT and another named MEMTEST.IMG

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

Have you gone into your BIOS and set primary boot device to your CD drive?
