start/run-- type cmd/hit enter
at the command prompt-- type sfc /scannow (note the space after "sfc")

ran the scan....the bar was moving very slowly so I left the room. when Icame back it was the dos prompt. Nothing noted or new. I then tried to open word it said "this patch package could not beopened. Be sure it is installed"

still can't open it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thescan did not help. I still cannot open Word. I can open other applications in Works, but no new docs or existing docs. I have tried to remove Word thru the installation CD and thru Add/Remove in the control panel. It won't uninstall it with out the patch package or the installer.

Is there some way toremove it in the regestry??

I installed Windows INstall Clean up from the Microsoft website. Removed everything that had Works or Word in it and reinstalled. It worked
