Default [Pending] Limited/No Connectivity

Alright.... just recently I've had issues with my wireless connection just crapping out at random times. I say random, but it seems to happen more between 9-11pm. Fed up, I called my ISP - which happens to be Time Warner and the tech told me that since I was able to click "repair" and restore the connection she felt like it was something in my computer.

So... I call gateway. As my luck would have it, my warrenty is up and they wanted to charge me $3 for tech support -- so I opted to chat online for free with a technician who simply said "Restore your computer to a date when it didn't happen" -- what a cop out.

I did some reading online about the issues associated with SP2 and the limited/no connectivity and I installed the patch that was on the Microsoft website. I thought it did me some good until it kept doing it.

Does anyone have a suggestion about what I should do and why this keeps happening? I have a Compaq lap top that *normally* sits in the living room with the modem and I've not had a problem with it holding the connection that I'm aware of. Also, I do not have a router -- only a modem next to my TV and a Motorola adapter that sits on my desk in my bedroom.

Is there something in the configuration? Is it something I installed? is it spyware/virus that's doing it and will S&D/ Ad-Watch nip it?

Also, I followed the instructions found at the link below at PC hell.com and it didn't help me... half an hour later I was running between 1-6Mbps, a far cry from the usual 54
PC Hell: How to Fix Problem with Limited or No Connectivity After Installing Windows XP SP2

I'd love any help someone was able to give me.... thanks in advance

Could you please follow the prework link in my signature and we will make sure it isn't a malware problem. If it is, our security team will take care of you.

Thanks,
Adam

Did this started happening after installing SP2?

And do you have any event ID 4226 entrys on the system tab of your event viewer?

I'm not exactly sure when it started, but I know it hadn't been doing it all along. and yes, I have MANY events with the ID 4226 in the system tab

Download and run this patch:

www.LvlLord.de - Tipps, Tricks & Utilities - Downloads

First with the default (50) option and then have a look if you still get 4226 entrys in your event viewer.

This is on the website that you gave me

Instruction:
Just download the patcher and execute it. It will automatically find the windows directory and ask, if it should increase/decrease. For higher values, please check the help with parameter /?.
After a successful patch, the new TCPIP.SYS will be automatically installed. After that, the computer should be restarted.

However that's not what happened! I double clicked on the exe file and the black dos prompt window popped up with a beep for not even a second then went away.... did the patch not get installed? How could I tell?
