Default [Pending] Acquiring NetWork Address

I have a Dell PC and I am trying to connect it to the Internet via the Eithernet Connection using a BT Voyager 2110 Wireless ADSL Router. All the correct lights are on in the Router (Power,DSL,Internet, Wireless(though not using it) and the Wired Network.
I can connect my laptop to the Internet using the BT Voyager 2110 Wireless ADSL Router and the wired Ethenet Cable, so it is not a problem with the Router.
I can connect the Dell to the Internet using the BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem.
I have tried changing the Network Adapter from a Broadcom 44x to a Dynamode USB to Fast Ethernet, so it is not the Network adapter.
I have tried using different Ethernet connection cables.
I have tried Windows Firewall off and on.
My Settings:
- Obtain an IP address automatically
- Obtain DNS Server address automatically
- DHCP Enabled
- In the WINS tab I have tried 'Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP' checked (and not checked)
I have tried Repair - Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed - Renewing your IP address

I have tried these commands
Flush Reset DNS - ipconfig /flushdns
Repair Winsock -
netsh winsock reset
Reset TCP/IP - netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
also
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
I have tried advice at this web site address
PC Hell: How to Fix Problem with Limited or No Connectivity After Installing Windows XP SP2
I have rebooted the machine after each change and rebooted the router.
I think these is a Windows setting which is corrupted, but how do I find it?.
One other perhaps unrelated piece of information, when I connect to the Internet on the Dell using the the BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem, I can get to every Web site except Amazon.co.uk: low prices in Electronics, Books, Music, DVDs & more

Just for my curiosity--- in your LAN properties--scroll down to TCP/IP/right-click go to properties/advanced/TCP filtering/properties-- should be permit all-- if it's not change it-- I had the very same issue-- and it came down to this setting conflicting with my firewall.
If you want ultra-secure you can go back and edit exactly what you want to connect later.

I have heard of these types of problems before with adsl modems, often the fix was updating the firmware. The first thing is have you installed the software from this site? BT.com | BT Voyager ADSL
