I have just registered with this forum so hello to everyone!
I recently had windows xp reinstalled as my PC was running really slow. Just before the reinstall, I was having quite a few problems that are still there. Here are the main ones:
- The PC will not shut down and hangs on a box saying 'saving your settings'
- When trying to switch users, a box often appears saying 'this computer is in use and has been locked'
- I sometimes get a box saying 'application error - the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000017). Click on OK to terminate the application.' - then everything disappears except the background picture.
- I connect to the internet then about 20 minutes later, it disconnects although it says that it is still connected and I cannot reconnect without restarting the PC (usually by having to manually turn it off)
These problems all started when I upgraded my broadband connection from 512k to 8mbps. I still have the same modem which is a Fujitsu FDX310. I think the drivers are about 5 years old and there are no recent drivers to update to.
Could my problems be caused by the modem now having to work with a much faster connection and not being suitable? It seems to much of a coincidence that all of these problems occured at the same time as the broadband changeover (same company) and are still present after reinstalling windows.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
