Question [Answered] Reinstalled Laptop, Need Driver Help

Hello everyone,

My laptop was getting pretty cluttered (I bought it new in January), and so I decided to format the hardrive and reinstall XP.

I have most everything up and running, but am still having a few issues.

There are still a few things in the Device Manager that have a yellow question mark next to them. These include:

Base System Device
Base System Device
Base System Device
Coprocessor
Other PCI Bridge Device
PCI Device
SM Bus Controller

I am also having a problem with my sound- mainly, there isnt any.

I have tried to install the audio drivers, but it gives me this error:

"Driver Installation Failed: Could not find the MEDIA device for this driver."

Does anyone know how to get sound back or what the mysterious devices in the device manager are?

Thanks a ton,
Connor

Actually, I have used that link pretty heavily to get most things up and running.

I got my touchpad drivers, my graphics drivers, and my wireless drivers from there.

Buuuut,

There's still the problem with the sound, the driver supplied doesnt work, and it gives me the error message above.

I also have no idea what the other devices are, so I dont know what drivers to install..

Any ideas?

Thanks

click the link for everest on the left side of the page under 'pchf recommended', get the make and model of your motherboard, then go d/l the drivers for that. That's where you'll find the sound drivers; if that doesn't work, go to the mfg of laptop's site, enter the make and model, and you'll be given a list of drivers to choose from. Again, with everest, you'll be able to tell what sound card you have in there, so d/l those drivers and install. If everest can't tell you the exact model (it's happened before) you may need to d/l more than to check.

thanks,

v
