Unhappy [Resolved] Some how I have a partition after installing xp

I now have a cdrive and D drive. I was just trying to install XP on a computer that had 98. I must have toggled the wrong switch and it put it on a D Drive. How do I delete the 98 or C drive. I don't have any space on either now, so I have to uninstall something. Please provide the best way to uninstall 98. I have the full version of XP. I tried to reboot with the xp installation cd to see if there was a way to fix the partition then, but it says there is not enough disk space. Your help is apprediated.

Hey there, if there are important documents or anything on the computer we can probably fix it with something such as gParted by deleting the 98 partition and expanding the XP partition but that could cause problems.

If you are not too worried the best thing to do would be to boot the XP cd and delete all of the partitions (When it asks destination, move over the partitions and Press D, if I recall, but the delete option will be shown on screen) and then when it is just 'unpartitioned space' choose to set up there and format all of the unpartitioned space as NTFS when it asks.

Hops this helps

wow that was fast thanks.
Problem is it doesn't give me any options cause after accepting terms and clicking next...it says I don't have enough disk space to install. There are no options before that. I don't need anything that is on the cdrive can we just blow it up????

is there any other way to get rid of the old 98/c drive?

Sure, we can have a go at this, if anything goes wrong you may need to reinstall XP though, which I can talk you through no worries.

Download GParted live CD and burn it (You will have to use some burning software such as nero or CDBurnerXP Pro to burn the image, you can't just simply copy it over) and boot from it, once booted you will get a window listing all of your partitions, select your 98 partition and from the menu select Partition -> Delete then click apply, after that select your XP partition and go to Partition -> Resize and make it bigger (just take it up as far as it'll go)

After that, click apply, cross your fingers and reboot.

I did what you said went to major geeks downloaded and burned g/parted. Put it in the computer...by the way it is 2000 prof. not 98, sorry. then I booted to the cd.
this is what came up:

GNV Grub version 0.97 (639 lower/128896K upper memory)
[minimal BASH-Like line editing supported. for the first word, TAB lists possible command completion. Anywhere else TAB list the possible completion of a device/file name

I hit TAB and a list of words came up...none of them worked...they were like....Background, lists, partnew, parttype...etc. I tried all of them and can't get to the partition screen you talked about. any Ideas???

Sorry ignore that. I think there was a problem somewhere as it shouldn't boot in to grub, it should just start.

I think the best way to go will be wiping the drive and installing XP from scratch.

Does the system have a floppy drive?
