Hi everyone I'm new here so I hope I'm doing this right.
I just bought a used DELL Inspiron 7000 laptop for my son. It did not come with an operating system therefore I bought a Windows XP system for it. The problem is that when you turn the PC on it goes to a black screen that says OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND and I can't get it to do anything else. Please someone help me.

Hi there and welcome to PCHF, enter the Bios (usually F2 or delete) to make sure that the CD Rom is the first boot device, pop your Operating System CD into the laptops CD Drive, and follow my guide to perform a repair install: http://www.pchelpforum.com/tutorials...indows-xp.html

Ok so I did that and it worked fine until I got to the screen that says Installin Windows and Installing Devices, it got about 2/3 of the way done with the devices and the screen went black I had to manually shut it if and start again. And again it did the same......any advice?

Ok what i would like you to do, is to do it again, but this time wait at the black screen for a couple of minutes and see what happens. Does the Hard drive sound like its making a noise?
