Question [Answered] Partition issue

Hello I guess this is my the second forum where im posting this message, kinda desperate :-)
i need to create a boot disk to have access to fdisk mode so that i can activate my partition.
I'm having an issue with my operating system, i can't even reinstall windows ( tried both vista n xp)
everytime i restart my pc i got the same message
A kernel file is missing from the disk. Insert a system diskette and restart the system...
well unfortunately i dont have any floppy, ive tried to burn a cd with win98 boot disk but no respond,I got the same message
anyway I know i kinda suck because I knew that my partition was inactive and I restart the pc... guys i need help.
This pc contains some precious data n i cant affort to lose them.
what do you think i should do ?
btw f8 n f12 dont seem to respond, I can do anything, am just sitting and watching my other pc.
Thanks
Mel

Hi there.

Firstly, if the data on the drive is very important the best idea would be to connect it to another PC as a slave drive and copy the data you really need over to that computer before hand [If you need assistance with this, just ask ] as messing with the partition table can go wrong quite easily and you could potentially be left without your data.

An easy way to go as far as utilities go would be to download Ultimate Boot CD which is a bootable iso, boot from it and there are a number of partition tools.

Again, if you need any help with this feel free to ask.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick reply, I will give it a try right now and if it does not work I will go with the slave drive but still... anyways will get back to you shortly.

Hey

To connect to a laptop you would need a 3.5" USB External enclosure.

Did you try Ultimate boot CD? There is a tool on there under 'Partition tools' named xfdisk which will allow you to activate the partition.
