Default [Resolved] Lost Task Manager

Help please.

When I try to access task manager (ctrl/alt/del) I get a window to open but totally black and it only says open for a few seconds. How do I recover please. Answers in very very simple english, ie. lead me by the nose.

Thanks

  • Click Start » Run » type: Notepad » OK
  • Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text from here to the Notepad file:
  • Make sure you copy everything, from "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" to ""DisableCAD"=dword:00000000"
  • Click File at the top and then choose Save As.
  • Change Save As Type to All Files.
  • Name it FixME.reg and save it on your desktop.
  • Double click FixME.reg. It will ask you if you want to merge it to the registry, click Yes.
Let me know if this works or not.

Tried it a different way. Took a copy of taskmgr.exe from another computer and transferred to mine. IT works. Thanks for advice.

Please click the link labeled "Prework" under the banner in my sig. Please follow the instructions and post back with your resulting logs attached. I am not a Malware expert, but I know that when something like this happens we should at least make sure you don't have any that could (would) cause this again.
