Default [Answered] Cannot play video files, W2k locks up

I have a weird problem. I have W2k, SP4 and as far as I know it is up to date.

When I try to play a video file(avi, mpg, doesn't matter) the computer locks up so I have
to press resset and reboot. It happens in all the players I have tried. WMP, VLC, Real, Winamp, Nero, and Divx.

Any suggestions? I tried a complete reinstall of W2K and it still does it. That leads me
to think it's a hardware or driver problem. But what?

Hello witchdruid, welcome to PCHF.

I've removed your link before you start to receive an influx of SPAM.

Can you try downloading and installing the following codec packs to see if these work:
Codec Installation Packages for IT Professionals
Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 3.3.5 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.3.5 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.3.5 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools

EDIT: Marked as answered.
