Hi Diogenes,

It look like your problem is being caused by your display drivers. Do you know what graphics card you have installed on your PC?

As a matter of fact, we replaced our graphics card shortly before the storm. We had an Nvidia GeForce 6800 and when it was damaged from my own botched attempt at replacing the fan (I slipped with a screw driver) we obtained an Nvidia GeForce 7100 GS to replace it.

I downloaded the drivers from Nvidia's website, rather then use the disk that came with it.

Our Norton Disk Doctor is still giving weird and inconsistent results, so I'm not sure. We have control of the computer but I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to, you know, prevent a total HDD failure.

Nope! As will all moving parts, they will eventually fail. You'll need to make sure that your have a backup of all of your data. Altough, does you PC still freeze up? Index problems alone are probably not enough to indicate HDD failure. It does also say in your first post "Corrective actions indicated below were not written to the disk.", which suggests to me that Norton is not actually resolving these issues.

The only way I could generate that report was by leaving 'Fix errors" unchecked. I've tried it several times with 'Fix errors' checked, and it still is reporting errors after each scan.

I appreciate the help, madmonkey. I suppose I may have to replace the HDD soon. I'm glad I know that now.
