Windows XP/2000 - [Pending] Opinion posted in the Operating Systems forums; I believe this problem could also be due to a loose IDE/SATA cable, depending on which your HDD uses, or it could be HDD failure....

IDE cable is a wide, flat, grey (usually) ribbon
SATA is usually Red and narrow-- either one (depending on drive type) transfers the data from your harddrive to your mobo and vice-versa.
It would be connected at the rear of your drive.
The small white connector is the power cable for the drive.

I've checked the wire - both ends are very secure and in place, nothing loose atleast.

OK... then you might be looking at a failing drive.
Just in case it IS -- back up any personal files right away -- tonight if possible--
http://www.pchelpforum.com/tutorials...p-your-pc.html

Failure to do so could result in permanent data loss-- or at least very expensive recovery. Harddrives are cheap-- priceless photos /personal data are not.
