I have an older laptop and i went and got an win xp home edition upgrade well since i installed it I cant get online and it says error your modem is disabled/ removed and i need the internet for school which starts next week can you help me

It is a Compaq Presario 1800 and intel inside pentium II

no i just got it from someone and they were leaving town so when i got it it was a me so i upgraded and now my modem dont work

Hi welcome to the forum it looks like it has a V.90 PCI Lucent modem but there are only windows 98 drivers here Presario Lucent V.90 PCI Modem Driver for Windows 98 Compaq Presario 1800-XL180 Notebook PC you could try them and see if they work. In windows go to device manager and uninstall the modem reboot the laptop it should ask for the driver direct it to where you download the driver. Or if the download has setup.exe or install.exe try them.


You don't have an External modem anywhere? you could also use that.

i cant get online with my notebook. I tried to do device manager but it didnt work do you think my modem is to old and cant handle the changes?
