Default [Answered] Workgroup/Domain missing!

I think i've done something a little daft. I'm on vacation from work and was trying to backup some files from my work laptop onto my home PC.

Laptop is on a domain and the homecomputer is on a workgroup, so I tried changing the laptop to the same workgroup. Prompted for a username/password, which I entered and then rebooted for it to take effect.

The laptop now won't let me log on and I can't find the domain box to change it on the login screen.

Need to get this sorted ASAP as I have loads of work to do on the laptop before I go back to work next week.

You won't be able to find the domain box until you rejoin the domain from the laptop. Boot in as local admin, readd to the domain, and all will be fine. You also won't be able to log in using your domain credentials, as you are now part of a workgroup. So you need to hop in as local admin and join the domain again.

thanks,
v

Your files will still all be there at.
To get access to them, do as Valis has said and log in with local admin (probably just Administrator and blank password)
Then goto C:\Documents and Settings\what your username was\Desktop or \My documents etc etc

If you have an IT department at work, they'll need to add the laptop back to the domain when you take it back to work.

Thanks for the quick reply. Don't have the local admin login and password and Administrator/Blank didn't work.

Any other way in?

So...how did you change the laptop from domain to workgroup? You must have a local account with admin permissions.

Hi Hengis, that's actually incorrect
When removing an account from the domain, you can leave the user/pass fields both blank, and it will work perfectly

Ginnerchris, unfortunately there's no access to your laptop until you rejoin the domain.
