Hi,

I really need help My computer restarts everytime after I put USB in. For example, when I put in my iPod or just a normal USB pen drive. What's wrong? I've tried searching on google, but I can't seem to find anything

My system:

I have windows XP
CPU: AMD Athlon 64, 2400 MHz 3800+
Motherboard: Asus A8R-MVP
Memory: 1024 MB
Hard Drive: 120GB
Graphics card: ATI Radeon x1800 xl
Power Supply Unit: 500 watt SilverStone

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

It may be that your PC is set to re-boot on every error. Let's turn that off then we may get an error message or blue screen that we can work with. Please do this;

Open System Properties via Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > System
[ System Properties may also be opened using the WinKey+Pause key combination ]
Select the Advanced tab and then click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section
In System Failure section, clear the checkbox next to Automatically Restart
Click OK and OK to exit

...then reboot and test with a USB device.

I've already done that ages ago. Sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

Also, when was the last time you flashed/updated the motherboard bios?

I've got no idea. When I built this system, I don't think I ever did update it. I only updated windows.

Hmm... computer seems to not be restarting after I installed the latest chipset. I re-synced my iPod, and stick a USB pen drive in, and... so far so good

I'll post back in this thread when the problem occurs again.

EDIT: Never mind, it just restarted sigh...

How do I flash/update my BIOS?
