Question [Answered] Power failure?

Not sure what my problem is here. I've consulted everyone I know and nobody can come up with a solution.

Randomly, my PC reboots itself. It happens around once an hour. It sounds like a fan is speeding up, maybe the PSU, and then it just reboots.

Also, when I turn the PC off, windows [unloads?] but the PC still sits Idle. All the fans stay on, as well as the HDD light, and the power light. I don't understand, it does not shut down unless I do it manually.

Third, my microphone refuses to work with my SigmaTel Audio driver. I have two SigmaTel Audio sound devices. I do not understand why. In any audio configuration (Ventirlo for example) I have the option of choosing SigmaTel Audio 1 or 2. I'm hypothesizing that one represents the back ports, and two represents the front?

I used a Dell Windows disc to install Windows XP onto a custom built PC (Created by me and a friend) would this be causing me problems? I can give the specs if neccessary, but I'm not sure if they would be.

P.S. Any help is appreciated, I'm really desperate.

Default Re: Power failure?

Hi Skittfail, welcome to the PCHF.

This problem is most likely a power supply issue - follow the PSU Calculator link in my signiture, and enter in all your system details...then add around 30% on top of the wattage it gives you, and this is the size that you should have.

In regards to the microphone issue...unfortunately we can't help you in regards to this, as you've installed Windows illegally onto your custom built PC.
Dell have an OEM license agreement with Microsoft, where only dell hardware can be installed with it.
