Question [Answered] Unable To Install USB Device

I have a Dell 8400 Pentium 4 Destop running Windows XP SP2.

I just purchased a Verbatim USB Drive (doesn't come with software) and plugged it into my computer. The "Found New Hardward Wizard" came up and offered to install the software automatically. I choose that option only to get a message that it "Cannot Install This Hardware. The hardware was not installed because the Wizard cannot find the necessary software." My old 512 USB Drive works fine on this port but I can't figure out how to get this new one to work. I'd appreciate any help in resolving this problem.

Dear AW_3_3 & Madgamer,

I hit the "cancel" button; however, the only thing that happened was that I received an error message in the system tray stating "a problem occurred during the hardware installation. You new hardware may not work properly" and my computer still does not recognize the USB drive.

I also went to the Verbatim website as Madgamer suggested and found the right USB Drive (Verbatim Store'n'Go 1 GB 2.0 Drive (95138) ; however, the 3 choices don't seem applicable (driver for Windows 98/ Driver for V-Safe and Driver for Vista. Thanks for the suggestions and I would, of course, appreciate any other additional suggestions.

Dear Madgamer,
I went to the Verbatim website, as you suggested, and picked Verbatim Store'n'Go USB Drive- 1 MB; however, none of the drivers seemed appropriate. There were 3 to choose from: A Driver for Windows '98, a Security Driver and one for Vista. I'd appreciate any additional suggestions you might have.

Ok if you have a Windows XP CD, could you put it in the CD Rom drive, then go to Start, then run and type in the open box, "sfc /scannow" (without quotes) and press enter. This will launch the System File Checker Utility, which replaces missing or damaged system files.
