Thanks, so by the looks of it I should be fine installing it.

I just want to make sure I do it correctly and don't screw it up cuz i've never donethis before. My main concern now lies with finding the correct drivers again.

From what I know my video card is MGA 2164WA-B which is Matrox Graphics, Millenium II AGP.

And my Sound Card is Crystal CX4235-XQ3

Jordoe, check out Microsoft instructions of setting up Windows 2000 here: How To Install Windows 2000 Professional

Once you start he initial setup, apart from a few choice questions, it's really easy and pritty much installs itself. The setup will take no more than an hour on that PC.

You can download your Matrox drivers from here: http://download.opendrivers.com/uplo...ox/w2k_582.exe

As for your Crytal drivers, it appeared that they had stopped support for this card a loooong long time ago before Windows 2000, but I could swear I managed to get hold of a driver. I think this may be it: www.madmadmonkeyflash.plus.com/pchf/cx4235xq3.exe

Are there any other devices installed in your PC? Other cards such as TV cards, modem, network cards etc?

Thanks very much

And the only other important driver I can think of is my network card which is a Realtek RTL 8029(AS) PCI Ethernet NIC

Here you go: ftp://202.65.194.212/cn/nic/win2000-8029(508).zip

You'll need a tool to unzip this one. If you don't have any unzipping tools, you can download one for free from here: ZipGenius.it - Free zip utility for Windows that handles zip, rar, cab, 7-zip archives and CD-ROM ISO9660 image files » ZipGenius

It's a slightly different process to install this one. With the first two, all you need to do is download and run, and let the setup wizard install the drivers for you.

With this one, it's a tiny bit more complicated. Open up Zip Genius once it's installed. From Zip Genius, open up the zip file you downloaded (called win2000-8029(508).zip). From the top menu, click Extract and extract the three files listed there to a location you'll remember.

For the final part of the installation of the Realtek driver, go to My Computer, Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager. Right click on the PC name (very first item shown in Device Manager), and Scan for Hardware Changes. When asked for your Ethernet drivers, pick them up from a specific location where you extracted the three files to.

You can always come back here if you have any problems or questions during the installation, as I do tend to babble a bit sometimes.

Well things have turned very badly.

The installation started out fine until it got to the part where it said it cannot verify drive c: .... then it continued on and deleted my previous windows and then after that it said it can no longer access files from the CD ROM!!! and i retried and retried and now its not working!

I have a Windows 98 installation disk that I've used before along with a Windows 98 Bootdisk but I forget how to use it and I'm really angry because I knew I shouldn't have started playing around with things and now I'm stuck .
